Gallinas Bridge Progress

October 31, 2017

The concrete for the bridge deck was placed on Monday, 30 October.  The concrete is Type D, with a minimum break strength of 4500 PSI, although our past tests of this same mix have been breaking at around 5600 PSI.  The concrete was pumped using two pumpers, one below the bridge and the other at the East end.  It was vibrated to ensure no voids or honeycombing would be formed.  The diaphragms at the ends of the girders were filled along with the deck, forming one continuous pour.  The surface was coated with curing compound after the finishing was complete.  The deck was double blanketed and heated after the concrete was placed.  Another long night for this exceptional crew!
