Preparedness Feature - Fire Blanket

For Christmas we received a wonderful gift of safety. I wanted to pass the idea onto all our neighbors. Our usual preparedness focus has been related to fire outside our homes. Are you aware that 48% of all home fires start in the kitchen? Many of you may have fire extinguishers at the ready-great practice! However, a fire blanket located near your stove can be deplored quickly, easily and with no mess in the event of a kitchen fire. Pull it out and throw it over the fire-no additional steps needed. It could be used on a grill fire or even a vehicle fire. And don’t forget to keep your pan lids handy as they can also be used to smother a fire. Most important, NEVER try to carry a burning pan of oil out of the house. Pan lid, extinguisher or fire blanket will smother the fire in place. Attached is a photo of our new fire blanket installed inside the pantry door next to the stove. Stay Safe Neighbors, Bill Latham
