The Fisher's Peak Fire Protection District (FPFPD) is an all-volunteer fire and rescue department in Starkville, CO. Volunteers respond to emergencies in Starkville, Jansen, Hwy 12, I-25, North Trinidad, and nearby housing subdivisions including Santa Fe Trail Ranches and Trinidad Lake Ranches.

The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office (LASO) has primary jurisdiction over Santa Fe Trail Ranch. Non-emergency law enforcement calls should be directed to LASO, whereas calls requiring immediate attention must be dialed via 911. LASO also benefits from a mutual aid agreement with the Trinidad Police Department, ensuring close cooperation and coordination when necessary

Fire Protection:
The Fishers Peak Fire Protection District (FPFPD) is a professional fire and rescue service serving the citizens and visitors of Trinidad and Las Animas County, CO. Its full-time staff, augmented by a dedicated group of volunteers, provides rapid and effective emergency response and fire safety services.
Emergency Medical Services:
The Trinidad Ambulance District is supported by an outstanding team of certified paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians. Their commitment is to bring the highest quality emergency medical care to the community throughout Las Animas County.
Law Enforcement Staffing:
The LASO is staffed by a team of highly trained officers dedicated to public safety. Although specific staffing numbers and call volumes are not detailed here, the LASO is well-equipped to handle the diverse range of calls for service that ensure community security and uphold the law. is augmented by volunteers.
Trinidad Police department currently employs about 26 sworn officers. Our officers respond to approximately 18,000 calls for service each, year including crime, civil issues, animal control and code enforcement.
SFTR is within the boundries of Las Animas County; therefore, all fire restrictions adopted by the Las Animas County Board of Commissioners applies to Santa Fe Trail Ranch. The current fire restrictions can be located on the Las Animas Emergency Management Website.

Las Animas County has been in Stage 1 restrictions since 2022 - banning ALL open fires, use of fireworks, burning vegetative waste and using fire for mitigation to name a few.
Las Animas County utilizes Smart 911 - a mobile app linked to emergency dispatch services and it allows users to share their personal information such as medical info, address, location, and general household info with the emergency operators.

A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is a strategic document developed by communities to address wildfire risks and prioritize actions to mitigate those risks. It serves as a collaborative effort between local governments, fire departments, community members, and other stakeholders like federal and state agencies.
It provides resources to help homeowners learn how to adapt to living with wildfires and encourages neighbors to take action now to prevent losses

Firewise USA® is a national program hosted by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) that provides communities and neighborhoods with a collaborative framework to mitigate wildfire risk. It encourages local solutions for wildfire safety by involving homeowners, community leaders, planners, developers, firefighters, and others in proactively protecting people and property from the risk of a wildfire.
